The answer for Albion co-founder Charlie Stewart this weekend was 482.1 miles (775.9km), good enough for 5th overall on the day.

The answer for Paul Watts, winner of this year’s National 24 hour title was an astonishing 532.6 miles (852.2km).

Dating back to 1937, the ‘24’ has brought a group of long distance cycling enthusiasts together each year for a test of endurance, resilience and meticulous planning that makes it one of toughest and most coveted prizes in cycling.

“Hard”, said Charlie. “Mentally and physically it is just an incredibly demanding event. Your fitness and endurance needs to be there, you need a clear idea of your pacing strategy and what you are capable of, your nutrition strategy and equipment strategy needs to be meticulously dialed in, you need a crew to keep you moving, and then your head needs to be on. Bringing all of that together on the day is months, if not years, of work to get right. But it is what makes the event so unique, and special."
