Further East

Further East is a 680km, fixed route, mixed terrain time trial around East Anglia.

Starting and ending on a bridleway that runs through race Director Camille McMillan's garden, the race is a homage to his youth as a cyclist in a part of Britain not celebrated for its cycling.

One of three events that make up the Further series of races (the other two being Further Perseverance in the Pyrenees, and Further Scotland in the Cairngorms), Further East is the 'flat' one.

For flat, do not read easy.

East Anglia is a hard, disorientating place to ride a bike. You're always on the pedals, and if you're lucky the wind will be on your back.

With favourable weather conditions in the run up, as well as forecast for the race weekend, the stage was set this year for the FKT on the route of 31 hours 28 minutes to be lowered by one of the 40 riders who lined up at one minute intervals at 5am on the morning of the race.

Lucas Cortini Oliviera was the first finisher, in a time of 31 hours 0 minutes 40 seconds. A new FKT.

Polly Milsom was first woman, fifth overall in a time of 35 hours 23 minutes 31 seconds. a new FKT.

Two fantastic rides, that only tell a small part of the story.
